What is a Twitter List? – Part 2
In my last blog post I discussed what a Twitter list is, limitations of Twitter lists and how to create a list and add people to it. This week I’d like to show you how to manage your Twitter lists. By now I hope you’ve created a few and begun adding people to them – now let’s discuss a few more details.
Managing Your Lists: In the right sidebar of your Twitter account you should now be able to see any lists you’ve created as well as any that you are following. The private lists will be denoted by a small “lock” next to them.
When you click on any of the lists, Twitter will load the stream of tweets from only those who are on that particular list. From here you’ll also be able to see a link just above the news feed that says “view list page”.
Once you click this link you’ll be able to view the page as everyone else will see it when they visit any of the public lists you’ve created. This is also the place where you can edit or delete any lists you’ve created. You’ll find links for those features in the upper right corner of this page.
Once you’ve created a list you can add new people to it just as I mentioned above – choose the “Lists” button from their profile page and check the box next to the list you’d like to add them to.
If you want to delete someone from your list simply uncheck the box next to the list you had added them to. You can do this either from their profile page or from the “list page”.
Who Has Listed You? From your home or profile page in the upper right hand corner you will see a link marked “listed”.
This appears next to the following and follower numbers. If you click the link “listed” it will take you to a page that shows you every list on which you appear. This page has two tabs – one for the lists following you and one for the lists you follow. Lists following you are the lists you appear on and Lists you follow are the lists that you’ve chosen to follow.
If you find yourself on any undesirable lists (either negative lists or lists of people you just don’t want to be associated with) you can remove yourself from the list by blocking its creator. You can do this one of two ways.
1) Click on the list itself. This will take you to the list page. In the right sidebar down towards the very bottom you’ll see an Actions section. You’ll have the option here to block the creator.
2) You can also block a list creator by going directly to their profile. From the original page you were on (the page that shows you every list on which you appear) find the list you don’t want to be associated with. Click the picture or icon next to the name of the list. This takes you to the creator’s profile page. Underneath their picture and to the right you’ll see the Lists button. To the right of that you’ll see a little button that looks like a pin wheel with a down arrow next to it. Click on that and choose “Block” from the drop down list.
I hope you’ve found these posts on Twitter lists to be beneficial. I’d love to hear your comments and questions!
Is your business ready to begin outsourcing?
As many of you know I recently launched a very special report called, “Hiring Out Social Media Tasks: How To Get Help Without Losing Control”. On August 26th I’ll be holding a follow up teleseminar to answer your questions and share some more great information such as:
1. What you can expect from social media marketing
2. Find out if you are a delegator or a doer – Should you hire a virtual assistant or can you feasibly learn to do it yourself?
3. Get specifics on tasks that are safe to delegate and how they can be delegated
4. And much, much more!
If you’ve ever considered outsourcing even a portion of your social media tasks then this report and teleseminar will be invaluable to you!
Not ready to begin outsourcing just yet?
Lots of small business owners either can’t afford to hire assistance or they simply need to gain an understanding of how things work before they hire someone to help. Very often they ask me about mentoring opportunities so they can learn to implement their own social media marketing plans.
Win FREE Social Media Mentoring!
It’s with that in mind that I’ve decided to hold a contest in honor of our whitepaper launch. I’ll be giving away two FREE social media mentoring packages.
